Background
Connie Berkemeier is a self-taught collage and mosaic artist based in Northern Kentucky, where wallpaper scraps, vintage books, magazines, and other overlooked treasures get a well-earned second act. After years of exploring creative hobbies—from quilting and decoupage to knitting and scrapbooking—she found her artistic groove in 2011, thanks in part to a nudge from her daughter to pick one thing and perfect it. Connie’s work is colorful, textured, and full of personality, proving that tiny paper pieces can make a very big impression.

Connie's Process
Every piece begins with a spark: a color, theme, image, or idea that refuses to sit quietly. From there, Connie gathers materials, chooses the size and format, and decides whether the piece wants to become a collage, mosaic, or a little bit of both. She works with upcycled foam core, wallpaper, scrapbook paper, book clippings, magazines, stickers, punches, scissors, and glue sticks—simple tools that become surprisingly mighty in the right hands. Whether arranging 1.5-inch squares into bold pop-culture mosaics or layering found images into lively collages, Connie follows color, symmetry, and instinct until the composition clicks.

Accomplishments
Since her first solo show at Myra’s Greek Restaurant in 2011, Connie’s art has traveled far beyond the studio couch. Her work has appeared at High Street Gallery, The Art House, Caracole, New Port Art Gallery, Reading Community Arts, Purple Paisley Art Gallery, Sharonville Cultural Arts Center, and more. She has completed commissions for The Three Jimmy’s in Gatlinburg and Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, including pieces displayed at the P&G headquarters. Her American Icon Eagle mosaic was featured in the Veterans Exhibition at the Kentucky Capitol Rotunda, and her artwork continues to find homes with collectors across the country—one carefully cut square at a time.
